Osman (1907-1978) was an economic historian and urban consultant. He worked at several colleges, including Presbyterian College in South Carolina and Southwestern College in Memphis, Tennessee before joining the Ford Foundation in 1952, where he became vice-president of its Fund for Adult Education.
